Understanding Google Panda

Panda was an Algorithmic change NOT a Spam Blocking Update!

Google Panda Algorithm

What is Panda? Panda is an initiative launched by Google to find more High Quality Websites and punish Content Scrappers by lowering their Visibility. Google chose to do my revamping the Search Engine Algorithm and is currently in its second revision. Version one of Panda was launched in February and version 2 at the end of March.

What are Content Scrapers? Scrapers, or Content Farms, are aggregators of Content that has been written or published by other websites, and brought in to massive websites that keep ranking higher and higher just because they have more Content than anyone else. Example: eHow.com.

What does it mean that it is an Algorithmic Change? Simple: Google is not targeting some sites and lowering their visibility – the algorithm applies to all websites equally. Some have been thinking that Google was going after some spammers or specific content scrappers – they are not; the change applies to all websites equally; so if your content is weak, or similar to most other websites, than your ranking reflects that purely from the algorithm – you are NOT being targeted by Google is you lost your page ranking.

Google is looking for signals of quality – meaning internet presence driven by useful content NOT by SEO Techniques.

Here is the Video by Matt Cutts – The head of Google’s Webspam team:

So what should you do?

1. Write Blogs from scratch – meaning use your words, your thoughts, your way of speaking, and your local knowledge.

2. Embrace video and describe them well. (And Yes I mean you in the Video – not just moving images…)

3. Write property descriptions that go beyond the flimsy content you put in the MLS. Let’s just be honest right here: Your Content is being Scraped by Syndicators and IDX Feeds all day long – so why don’t you offer the necessary information to the Big Channels, but on your website, offer more information and more lifestyle related descriptions.

4. Learn to Blog Strategically – Blogs without proper landing pages, Blog Signatures, and Original Content are Not of great value.

5. And oh yeah make sure your Container (Website) is properly scalable. (View previous blogs on all these topics.)

Let me share my thoughts on the Panda Updates; as a Real Estate SEO Strategist and Trainer I am very excited about Panda – there is a feeling that the large Monster Websites that keep taking advantage of our content are going to be penalized; and those who embrace Content Creation and Internet Marketing are going to be rewarded.
